World surf comp in Panama
Mount Maunganui’s Matt-Lewis Hewitt is one of six surfers to compete at the 2013 Reef ISA World Surfing Games. The event is being held at Playa Santa Catalina in Panama from the 4th – 12th May.

Tahuna Breaks LIVE / Brewers Bar – 25 April
The return of Tahuna Breaks to Mount Maunganui has been a long time coming. The band has a lot of history with this town. Every show has been a heart stomping giddy up, not just because they’re such versatile performers with monster musicianship, but because they really do bring the vibe. Come Anzac Day Thursday 25 April we’re going to do it all over again.

It’s difficult to say what my favourite works by Owen Dippie is, because there are just so many great works of art to choose from! Up on my wall at home – taking up the entire wall – is the Che Guevara he did for me back in 2009, and that’s in my top 3. Now this one of Albert Einstein is definitely up there. Rob Murdoch approached Lightwave Gallery to exhibit his art with a view to have a solo exhibition. His work covers the general “diesel punk” part of the fast growing “steam and enjin punk” movements that cover the Victorian and later years science fiction novels, the days when authors could only dream of ray guns, rockets, and time travel.
Through initial meetings with Rob, Ken Wright, Director of Lightwave realised that to give provenance to Rob’s collection of ray guns and other worldly things, there needed to be a concept, a story, something to make the exhibition more than simply a collection of works hanging on the wall. There needed to be some form of experience.
To give more weight to a germ of an idea we invited a “League of Extraordinary Artists” to participate. This would not only allow other artist to showcase their work but also give a sense of reality to what was becoming the emerging story, “Cpt. Rob Murdoch – The Dark Side of the Mount”.

Tattoo & Graffiti Urban Art Fest at Rosies on Sunday

Rosies this Sunday are having a tattoo show with 4 different firms representing. The event is from 1pm and will take full advantage of the garden bar with Owen Dippie and a contemporary creating a collaborative mural. Also featured on the day will be a body painting competition, DJs and the epic band AntWars. There will be prizes, cheap beer and eye candy to boot! Check it out.
